* Software currently being tried

So what am I currently running? (with initial, naive comments)
Google Reader - I run it to facilitate comparison but unfortunately I gravitate to it when I get busy. I haven't yet found anything I consider better or even quite as good, for what I want.

The Old Reader - this copy of Google Reader before its major face lift dropping all the sharing facilities looks promising. It was absolutely borked due to the rush to try it, and took over a week to load my feeds. I know I could have done it manually but I had plenty of others to play with.

NewsBlur - my initial reactions of disappointment may have been increased by raised  expectation as it's frequently recommended. I'm sure there must be stuff I don't  yet understand about it as my general feeling is mild antipathy. Pretty slow performance - I guess it's resources are creaking behind the scenes.

Bloglovin - a nice clean interface, I like minimalist simplicity but maybe this is just too simple and lacking in facilities and formatting options?

Feedly - popular, glossy and smooth. At first I hated it but quickly discovered it can be used efficiently. Still some real annoyances though. One to watch.

Bloglines - I used Bloglines back in the days before they announced they were closing. Something they reversed close to the closure deadline but I had gone by then. Ownership and software has changed. Functional if inelegant this could be a replacement but some slight annoyances.

Netvibes
- Same owners as Bloglines, in fact Bloglines is a subset of Netvibes functionality, My first reaction is against the additional functionality. Very strange and variable behaviour if you set up identical user id and password in both Netvibes and Bloglines.

En-route to selecting these I dropped a few others. In the face of so many to try, reasons for dropping were often trivial and maybe even wrong. It would be misleading to name them here.

I expect to cull some on this list and replace with others I've not yet tried.
